Renovated in 1995, the South Courtyard features a landscape inspired by the 12 rays of light in the national emblem, symbolizing the 12 hours of daytime and the 12 months of the year, and reflecting the dynamic interplay between human beings and nature. The courtyard also features an expanded paved area to accommodate stretch limousines, and in recent years hard surfaces have been minimized and green space increased to make the courtyard a venue for activities open to the public. Like in the North Courtyard, a Taiwan cow-tail fir tree stands at the center, representing the enduring “evergreen” spirit.
