05Corridors

The corridors not only connect the interior spaces of the Presidential Office Building, but to adapt to Taiwan's rainy climate, they also serve to regulate temperature and provide shade from direct sunlight. The first-floor corridors are vaulted, with walls and arches constructed from durable “Guanyin” stone (andesite). The west side of the north and south courtyards feature external passageways. The second and third floors have jack-arch windows facing the courtyard, while the fourth floor features curved-arch windows. The fifth-floor outer walls, added later, are faced with clapboard and feature horizontal, sliding-pane windows.
